Community Approaches to Health and Healing: Experiences from South Africa and Germany
Workshop for community health professionals, volunteers, activists and researchersCommunities play a crucial role in promoting health, wellbeing and healing, particularly in contexts marked by social inequality, poverty and violence. Across the world, community-based initiatives develop innovative ways of supporting individuals and strengthening collective wellbeing.
This workshop brings together colleagues from South Africa and Germany to exchange experiences and approaches to health promotion in and with communities. Speakers from South Africa will present their work on mental health, gender-based violence, youth wellbeing and community healing. Particular attention will be given to participatory and creative approaches that engage young people and communities as active contributors to health promotion and social change.
Colleagues from Germany will share experiences from local projects and initiatives, creating opportunities for dialogue, mutual learning and reflection across different social and cultural contexts. Together, participants will explore how community-based approaches can foster resilience, strengthen social support and contribute to more equitable health outcomes.
The workshop is open to community health professionals, volunteers, activists, researchers and anyone interested in community-based and participatory approaches to health and wellbeing.
